Doing Development Education as a school network

Practical School Examples:

Here are some examples from the applications of Global Passport Awardees. These provide some great examples for what your school can do in this school category:

St. Marys College, Dublin

“We are part of the Spiritan Education Trust, and attend regular meetings at the Des Places House…  Every year we attend a day in another Spiritan school where we share the work we have done and get ideas.  Students present their projects at this event and have a chance to talk to students about their projects from other schools.” Citizens Global Passport Award Winner 2017

Millstreet Community School

“The school has now organised/hosted two seminars around the theme of climate change and migration.  The first in 2015 involved TY’s from four other local schools.  The second held in February 2016 involved TY’s from eight local schools in total.  The events were run in association with Trocaire and a member of staff from each school attended.  Workshops on a range of related themes were run for students and a special one for teachers was also put on.  This initiative is seen as the start of greater links between the schools/teachers.  It is hoped that the schools themselves will also see the value in adopting a DE as an approach in school planning.” Diplomatic Global Passport Award Winner 2016

Ramsgrange Community School, Wexford

“Ramsgrange Community School is part of the St. Louis Schools Network and a group of students from each of the schools in the network meet once a year normally in March. The day offers workshops for both teachers and students on DE themes”. Citizens Global Passport Award Winner 2015

Killinarden Community School, Dublin

“Friends of Londiani school network provides forum for teachers and students to exchange information and learn from each other. Student-led workshops are particularly useful as face-to-face interaction has brought new understanding” Diplomatic Global Passport Award Winner 2015
